PowerFolx Club
PowerFolx was founded in May of 2023 with the goal of creating a safe space for queer individuals to train and practice in the art of Muay Thai. Imperative to this vision is a learning environment where all identities and gender expressions are embraced and celebrated. In 2025 PowerFolx began offering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. We are committed to challenging stereotypes, promoting wellness, and advocating for equality both within our training space and beyond.

Muay Instructor

PowerFolx Founder and Lead Instructor, Ellis, has trained in martial arts, primarily in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, for nearly two decades. He has trained in Guatemala City, Guatemala; Hanoi, Vietnam; Washington, D.C.; Arlington, Virginia; and Southern and Midcoast Maine. As a queer and trans martial artist he understands the discomfort that can arise from training in primarily binary spaces. His goal with PowerFolx is to reduce barriers to entry into these sports for his queer and trans siblings and to create a training community that is safe, welcoming and collaborative.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor
Grey began their martial arts journey in 2007 practicing Aikido and transitioned to practicing Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2009 in northern Virginia. Grey has never lost touch with their beginnings, however, and their style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu incorporates lessons learned from their time training Aikido. Grey was awarded their purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2018 under Rick Webber and began teaching BJJ in Maine in 2022. Grey’s teaching style focuses on body movement and developing fundamental skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.
